Youth Action Challenge (YAC) is a platform for youth to provide solutions that tackle the issues we are concerned about. Since October 2021, over 80 teams and more than 310 youths have undertaken the YAC Season 3 journey.

Alicia, 18, is currently studying as a JC2 Student. She joined the Youth Action Challenge (YAC), with two of her friends as Team BUBBLON to push for the reduction of plastic cups and carriers when enjoying bubble tea. Today she shares more about her time in the YAC!

What was your role within your YAC project?

I was a team member who assisted in contacting potential sponsors and manufacturers.

What motivated you to join YAC?

The thought is that I should be doing more for the environment. My team and I saw how bubble tea stores could help in this process!

Can you share with us your experience with your YAC project?

I have gained a lot of insight into the thought process of making a product more desirable and feasible while also ensuring that the product would make a positive influence on the scaling down of plastic use in bubble tea.

What are some challenges you faced while working on your YAC project?

We had difficulties in trying to obtain collaborations with bubble tea companies, as well as making the bottle more feasible and desirable.

Were there any key takeaways or learning points from your time with YAC?

The knowledge we have gained on the plastic wastage problem and product refinement process is tremendous. We have also learned to gather a lot of feedback from both the mentors and the public to be able to see the strengths and limitations of the project from all aspects.
