Impact 0514: Seeing youth overcoming mental health issues as heros

HI! I am Jacelyn Chia and I am 25 this year and I’m currently working as a social worker. During my undergraduate days at Singapore University of Social Sciences, I ran a support group for youths struggling with their mental health.

The support group was named “Stherotypes” as I wanted to dispel stereotypes of persons with mental health issues and for them to be viewed instead as “heroes” for overcoming the challenges they faced.

Through running this support group, I became more passionate about wanting to pursue social work as a career to help others in need. It has been a privilege to witness the growth of these five individuals over the period of three years and journey with them through the ups and downs in their lives.
